Best for

Ecommerce brands (especially on Shopify) that want unified email+SMS messaging, native predictive segmentation (CLV, churn risk), and revenue-attributed flows without stitching together a separate ESP and SMS tool.

Worst for

Non-ecommerce senders, budget-constrained low-volume lists that don't need profile-based predictive features, and anyone wanting SMTP relay or a flat/simple pricing structure — Klaviyo has no SMTP relay and pricing scales continuously with active profile count.

Pricing

ModelContact-tiered No source Unverified
Free planYes — Free plan's existence is confirmed directly (help.klaviyo.com billing article: 'Free plans renew on the 1st of each month'). Widely and consistently corroborated across multiple independent 2026 secondary sources (not confirmed via direct fetch of klaviyo.com/pricing, which returned HTTP 404 to this research pass's fetch tool): up to 250 active profiles, 500 email sends/month, and $5/month of Mobile Messaging (SMS/MMS/WhatsApp) credit included. Source ↗ Verified 2026-08-18
Annual discount0%

Klaviyo's own billing help article states 'All Klaviyo plans are billed on a monthly basis' with no mention of an annual billing option or discount. Secondary sources conflict (some claim 15% or 25% annual discounts) but none point to a current first-party page confirming this, so no discount is assumed here — see reports/needs-verification.md.

Billing switched Feb 18, 2025 from total-profiles to 'active profiles' (any profile, regardless of consent status, that can be emailed through Klaviyo). Paid Email plan tiers are priced per active-profile band with an included monthly send allowance reported at roughly 10x the profile limit; accounts exceeding their plan's allowance are auto-upgraded at the next billing cycle ('flexible sending') or can flex/overage at the current tier's unit rate. Mobile Messaging (SMS/MMS/WhatsApp) is billed separately as a dollar-denominated monthly spend pool, not folded into the per-profile tier price; unused Mobile Messaging dollars do not roll over. Accounts above roughly 250,000 profiles move to manually-negotiated/sales-assisted billing (per secondary sources; not confirmed first-party). IMPORTANT: klaviyo.com/pricing itself returned HTTP 404 to this research pass's automated fetch tool on every attempt (apparent bot protection) despite being a genuine, real, human-browsable page — so no individual tier price in this file or in pricing/klaviyo.ts is marked 'exact'; all are triangulated from multiple independent 2026 secondary sources and marked 'estimated'. See reports/needs-verification.md.

Marketing emailYes Source ↗ Verified 2026-08-18
Transactional emailNative

Sent via metric-triggered flows (e.g. 'Placed Order'), not a separate paid product. Each message must be individually submitted for and approved as 'transactional' status (up to 24 hours review); only available on paid accounts, not the free plan.

Source ↗ Verified 2026-08-18
SMTP relayNone

Confirmed by a Klaviyo Community Manager in an official forum reply: 'SMTP credentials are not something we offer.' Klaviyo recommends setting up a branded/dedicated sending domain instead.

Maintained SDKs in Python, PHP, Ruby, and Node in addition to the REST API.

Source ↗ Verified 2026-08-18

Native predictive analytics: historic/predicted/total customer lifetime value, churn risk, expected date of next order, and predicted gender, usable directly as segment conditions.

Source ↗ Verified 2026-08-18
A/B testingYes

Native A/B testing for campaign subject lines, content, and send time, plus separate flow-email and flow-branch A/B testing.

Source ↗ Verified 2026-08-18
SMSNative

SMS/MMS available in the US, Canada, and ~17 other countries (UK, Ireland, Australia, New Zealand, and a growing list of EU/Nordic countries as of this research pass); billed as a per-message dollar rate (not credits) drawn from a monthly Mobile Messaging spend pool that does not roll over. WhatsApp also supported per help.klaviyo.com/hc/en-us/articles/13502982552347.

Landing pagesNative

Native, standalone hosted landing pages with their own URL (company.myklpages.com or a custom domain), built in the same editor as sign-up forms; this shipped in early 2026 — prior to that, Klaviyo relied on third-party landing-page-builder integrations.

Source ↗ Verified 2026-08-18
FormsYes

Native popup, flyout, full-page, and embedded sign-up forms with built-in CAPTCHA bot prevention.

Source ↗ Verified 2026-08-18
Deliverability toolsAdvanced

Native Deliverability Hub tracks open/click/bounce/unsubscribe/spam-complaint rates and sender reputation; automated SPF/DKIM setup for branded sending domains. No native inbox-preview or spam-content testing tool was found — the article directs users to external tools (e.g. Google Postmaster Tools) for some monitoring.

Source ↗ Verified 2026-08-18
Dedicated IPNative

Available only to accounts that 'qualify' (consistent high-volume sending cadence); requires reaching out to a Customer Success Manager. Whether qualification carries an additional fee on top of the plan price is not documented in this article — see reports/needs-verification.md.

Compliance

GDPR DPAYes

DPA incorporates Standard Contractual Clauses (Module Two and Module Three) and states Klaviyo self-certifies under the EU-U.S. Data Privacy Framework.

Source ↗ Verified 2026-08-18
EU data residencyNo

DPA states Klaviyo 'may store and process Customer Personal Data anywhere Klaviyo or its Sub-processors maintain facilities'; no EU-only data residency option is offered — international transfers rely on SCCs/DPF rather than data localization.

SOC 2Yes

Klaviyo's compliance help section footer displays an AICPA SOC certification badge alongside ISO 27001, ISO 27017, and PCI DSS; this page does not specify Type I vs Type II, but SOC 2 Type II is consistently reported elsewhere (Klaviyo Trust Center at trust.klaviyo.com, multiple secondary sources).
